The Birds!

Every year without fail we have dozens of little birds come to visit, and by visit I mean they nest in our roof. From dawn til dusk the Weebills gather nesting material, flying back and forth from the gum trees to the house. They gather cobwebs, pet fur and the coir lining of my hanging baskets to build their little love nests. The excitement dies down for a while as the eggs are incubated.....then the activity ramps up! Once hatched both parents are in and out of the roof feeding these ravenous little chicks. Beginning at dawn the chirping starts and goes ALL DAY, and since we have about 15 nesting pairs it is a busy time, and once the chicks have fledged and gone.....they do it all over again, sometimes 3 or 4 times.
So Chris made some lovely birdhouses last year, but the birds arrived before we could put them up.
3 weeks ago we got the ladder, put a comfy layer of straw in the houses, and the birds arrived just before we could put them up.
There's always next year, and we made enough houses to sell a few too.
